PTN supports Feed Design Lab

The company designed a hot start conditioner and retention time screw with smaller dimensions adapted to the center’s new line for small trials.

In 2020, Feed Design Lab opened a renewed line with the option of heat-treated tests and feed trials. Feed Design Lab is a pilot factory in the Netherlands, which can be used by companies for, among others, technological tests or the production of their test and feed trials. 

As part of the partnership between Feed Design Lab and the TRIOTT Group, several machines from PTN, a subsidiary of the TRIOTT Group, were included in the renewed line. The PTN delivery consists of a special PTN Hot Start Conditioner, a PTN bypass screw and a special PTN Retention Time Screw.

The renewed line is suitable for making test batches with a capacity of 200-800 kg/hour. Due to this low capacity, the standard PTN hot start conditioner and the standard PTN retention time screw were not suitable for this application. For this reason, PTN designed a hot start conditioner and retention time screw with smaller dimensions for Feed Design Lab. Due to the smaller dimensions of the hot start conditioner, it was not possible to use inspection hatches in the design, as used in standard hot start conditioners. In order to still be able to perform the desired inspection and cleaning activities, PTN designed an innovative solution especially for this hot start conditioner, with which the entire main shaft can be easily rolled out of the conditioner.

In the renewed line, the product can be fed from the Hot Start Conditioner via the bypass screw or the retention time screw to the ALMEX expander/extruder or the pelleting press. 

Feed Design Lab, in addition to the existing test facilities, also offers the following test options:

  • Production of thermal-treated tests and feed trials from the first kilo with a retention time of approximately 30 seconds of the product in the hot start conditioner and the bypass screw.
  • Production of thermal-treated tests and feed trials from the first kilo with an adjustable retention time between 70 and 520 seconds of the product in the hot start conditioner and the retention time screw.
  • Test production of full-fat soy from the first kilo with an adjustable retention time between 70 and 520 seconds of the product in the hot start conditioner and the retention time screw.
