The third session of Skretting’s FISH Great Talks features David Nickell, vice president of sustainability & business solutions at DSM. The event, which brings together internationally recognized experts to discuss topics of interest to the aquaculture industry, will take place on August 26, 2021.

The talks, which have been supported since their inception by Hendrix Genetics, DSM and Scale AQ as sponsors, previously featured Joost Matthijssen, director of venturing of Nutreco, who gave a perspective on global disruptive innovation and international collaboration, and Robbert Blonk, expert in aquaculture genetics and director of aquaculture R&D at Hendrix Genetics, who discussed innovation in genetic improvement in Atlantic salmon.

In this third session, David Nickell will discuss sustainability in the aquaculture industry. “For DSM, it is of great relevance to participate in events of growth and cultural conversation in the region. We believe that the FISH Great Talks is a tremendous opportunity to open topics of interest in a transparent way and demolish myths within the national aquaculture industry in a collaborative way,” said Jorge Pavez, DSM aquaculture market manager.

“The presentation will address the trends that are strongly influencing the animal protein production industry worldwide, to make it more sustainable in all its dimensions. Nickell will talk about de-carbonization and the impacts on biodiversity, as well as the need to better understand and measure the environmental footprint in the aquaculture industry. The presentation will also cover the importance of sustainability in the value chain and the prioritization of this development area from the perspective of the different stakeholders and interested parties of the business,” said Fernanda Kuschel, technical manager ANH of DSM.
