AgriProtein signed a deal with PreZero US to launch a new joint venture, Bioko, an operating entity for nutrient recycling processes in the United States.

PreZero is an innovative, global recycler at the forefront of developing circular economy solutions. The German-based company has over 90 locations spread across nine different countries. Bioko’s mission is to use the power of nature to fully integrate food waste into the circular economy.

PreZero will be sourcing recovered food waste for Bioko facilities to process into animal feed and soil nutrient products via black soldier fly technology. AgriProtein is a pioneer in the insect technology industry and is responsible for the build-out of Bioko facilities and day-to-day operations.

Jason Drew, AgriProtein co-founder and chief executive officer, said that “this is an exciting step forward for Bioko and the insect industry as a whole. We are looking forward to bringing nutrient recycling to Riverside County and helping California reach its forward-thinking organic waste landfill diversion targets.”
