Aller Aqua partners with Kenyan fish farmer to supply feed in the region
Thursday, August 4, 2022
Kenya-based Bayrise Fish Farm recently partnered with Aller Aqua to provide high-quality fish feed to farmers in the region.
Bayrise Fish Farm is located in Sori Bay, a town on the banks of Lake Victoria, and has been operating since 2018. It supports an out-grower program for small farmers, which provides critical farm inputs to help them succeed. The program includes the supply of tilapia fingerlings, Aller Aqua's feed, training sessions to strengthen farmers' technical skills as well as aggregation, market linkage, and off-take arrangements via Bayrise's cold chain infrastructure to prevent post-harvest losses.
“The Kenyan aquaculture sector is characterized by its highly fragmented production and market structure. Small farmers face difficulties in running their businesses and effectively competing against big-sized farmers in the marketplace. Additionally, the market demand for fish is high but the local production is low,” said Alfred Achar, managing director, and founder of Bayrise. “We strive to create an inclusive, gender-equality aquaculture sector, be sustainable and empower the economy in our community.”
Bayrise is constantly on the lookout for innovations that can solve market challenges to effect positive change in the aquaculture value chain. The company’s strategy is to strengthen global partnerships with companies that strongly support the UN's SDGs and share the same values in the industry.
“We are excited to have a dedicated partner like Bayrise, a strong-minded company, with the required knowledge and people,” said Adrian Constantin, area sales manager for Africa. Aller Aqua plans and executes with the goal of long-term growth and sustainability, making this collaboration a successful step toward a green growing aquaculture sector in Kenya.
