Aqua Bounty appoints international sales veteran for Pacific Rim expansion

Aqua Bounty Technologies, Inc., a Waltham, Massachusetts, USA-based biotechnology company that develops products to manage health and increase productivity in the fast-growing aquaculture sector, has appointed Gerry McGuire to lead the company’s sales effort in Southeast Asia.

McGuire, a veteran sales manager with more than a decade of experience in Pacific Rim shrimp farming markets, will direct the roll-out of the company’s integrated line of health management products in the region. Aqua Bounty provides diagnostic tools, feed additives and therapeutics under the SYBR ShrimpTM and Shrimp IMSTM brands.

McGuire, a multilingual executive with substantial experience in international market development, has focused on delivering client-centered solutions during more than a dozen years in the shrimp feed and technology sector.  As sales manager for a major U.S-based aqua feeds producer, he managed a 15-nation distribution network in southeast Asia, emphasizing productivity improvement at the farm level.

McGuire was a pioneer in the introduction of probiotics to Asian and Latin shrimp markets in the 1990s, and has emphasized new product introductions throughout his career.

A native of the United Kingdom, McGuire began his career in the British Civil Service, where he discovered an early interest in global commerce while working in the Foreign Office.

“Gerry McGuire combines an unusually sophisticated insight into global markets with a down-to-earth ability to translate innovative science into farm management routines,” said Henry Clifford, the Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Aqua Bounty.

“His language and communications skills have been honed on the difficult job of introducing science-based products to practical farmers, often in quite isolated parts of the world. He can immerse himself, not only in the farmer’s culture, but especially in the farmer’s point of view.  We’re delighted he has agreed to join the Aqua Bounty team.”

“Aqua Bounty’s concentration on aquaculture, together with its commitment to cutting edge science, present unique opportunities in a globalizing market,” McGuire said. “The key is to get the infrastructure right, not just to sell products but to deliver detailed technical support, consistently and anywhere in the world. I’m looking forward to taking on that job in Asia, where I know from experience just how open farmers are to innovations that work.”
