Since the signing of the Black Sea Grain Initiative on July 27, 2022, over 32.1 MMT of grains and vegetable oils have shipped from three eligible Ukrainian ports to 46 countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, reported the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture. To date, China is the single largest recipient of feed and food commodities shipped under the plan.
According to information published by the United Nations Joint Coordination Centre, as of June 20, 2023, approximately one-quarter of all grain and oilseed volumes shipped under the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI) were destined for the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Under the plan, which allows for commercial food and fertilizer exports from eligible Ukrainian ports, over 7.2 MMT were shipped to China, including 5.6 MMT of corn, 1.8 MMT of sunflower seed meal, 370,000 metric tons (MT) of sunflower oil, and 340,000 MT of barley.
Spain and Turkey were the second and third top shipment destinations with 5.9 MMT and 3.2 MMT respectively.
