Bunge and Viterra are in talks for a potential merger that would further consolidate global agriculture trading and bring Bunge closer on a global scale to leading rivals ADM and Cargill, Reuters reported.

The deal would be scrutinized by regulators as trade in staples, such as wheat, corn and soybeans, is concentrated among Bunge and three other large players, raising global concerns about food security.

In 2017, Bunge rebuffed a previous approach by Viterra, formerly known as Glencore Agriculture.

Bunge last year was the largest corn and soy exporter from Brazil, and Viterra was the third largest corn exporter and No. 7 soybean shipper.
