4th Practical Short Course on Extruded Pet Foods and Treats will be held in July 8-11 at Texas A&M University by staff, industry representatives, and consultants. The objectives of the course are:

  • Train production personnel in principles and characteristics of extruders and support systems for effective selection and operation.
  • Review current practices for preparation of pet foods and pet treats.
  • Demonstrate equipment in operation and familiarize attendees with practical aspects of extrusion technology for pet food manufacturing.

The program will cover information on material handling, preconditioning, extrusion of pet foods, extruded and non-extruded treats, raw material, extrusion hardware, automation, product analysis, meat handling in pet food, drying, cooling and enrobing, food safety, pet food and treat shelf life, and trouble shooting. There will be practical demonstration of pet food and treats on single and twin screw extruders.
