The 2nd Regional Conference on Aquaculture (Nigeria 2022) will take place from October 16-19, 2022 in Abeokuta, Nigeria. The conference is organized by World Aquaculture Society’s African Chapter West Africa Region, hosted by Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, co-hosted by the Aquactic Hub Afrique Network and in partnership with the Chamber of Aquaculture, Ghana. The main topic of the conference will be Sustainable aquaculture development for livelihood in West Africa.

The former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, an agri entrepreneur and fish farmer, who will chair the conference.
John Walakira, director of research at the Abi ZARDI-National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Uganda. He was elected the first president-elect for the WAS-AC in 2019 and president of the chapter in 2022. He has been instrumental in the establishment processes of the WAS-AC since the onset. Through various R&D activities, John has contributed to the development of aquaculture in Uganda and the East Africa region since 1999. As WAS-AC president, John has pledged to lead the organization on many of its upcoming events and activities in line with its commitment to be a continental player in providing the necessary societal support for sustainable aquaculture development. His keynote topic will be The role of World Aquaculture Society-African Chapter (WAS-AC) in sustainable aquaculture development in Africa.
Menyoli Emmanuel Molua, senior biodiversity consultant based in Norway. He is the co-founder of a Nigerian-based consulting firm Aqua-Global inter solution. He is also a member of the Norwegian Climate and Environment Committee and has previously worked as a consultant in the Directorate of Fisheries in Norway and Cameroon and as Secretary-General of the first hybrid conference on Aquaculture in the West Africa Region of World Aquaculture Society African Chapter. Menyoli Emmanuel is an advocate of good governance in fisheries and aquaculture development. His keynote topic is Aquaculture policies and laws: A veritable tool for aquaculture sustainability.
Abba Yakubu Abdullah, a special adviser on agriculture to the Governor of Katsina State Government, Katsina State, Nigeria. Abba is a fisheries and natural resource professional who has contributed to the aquaculture development in Nigeria. His keynote topic is Sustainable aquaculture development and food security in Nigeria.
Nabil A. Ibrahim, professor of biostatistics and quantitative genetics at the October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), a professor of limnology and genetics at the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research (CLAR), and an international consultant for the genetic improvement programs at some international organizations. He also worked as geneticist at WorldFish in tilapia and African catfish programs. His keynote topic is Genetic improvement programs to boost sustainable access to better seeds: Case of GIFT and GIANT.
