CAA3: 3rd International Symposium on Cage Aquaculture in Asia, November 16-19, 2011 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Cage Aquaculture in Asia is a significant contributor to the Asian production of freshwater and marine fin fish. With declining fisheries, aquaculture has a larger role in the global fish supply and the pressure will be on cage aquaculture to improve efficiencies in production. Land based aquaculture is being restricted with competitive use of water and land resources.

Cage aquaculture is widely practised in many parts of Asia but is largely small scale. The future will require industrial cage aquaculture to achieve economies of scale to be competitive.  At the same time, production methods need to besustainable and environmentally friendly and attention is on food safety in production to meet demands from consumer and markets.
