June 22, 2011

On behalf of the United States Aquaculture Society, I would like to invite you to present in a special session entitled: “Distiller’s Dried Grains with Solubles in Aquaculture” to be held at the Aquaculture America conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, February 28 - March 2, 2012.

Distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS), the main co-product of the dry grind fuel ethanol plants, is currently readily available and less expensive (on a per unit protein basis) than most commonly used protein sources. The U.S. production of DDGS has increased sharply from 16.4 million tons in 2006/07 to 35.3 million tons in 2009/10. At present, DDGS is mainly used as a protein supplement in terrestrial animal diets, but its use in aquaculture diets is limited. However, available research results indicate that DDGS is a promising alternative protein ingredient for aquaculture diets. Thus, I am soliciting speakers for this special session to highlight the past and present understanding of the nutritional characteristics, nutrient bioavailability, nutritional value and use of DDGS in diets of various aquatic species.

If you would like to make a presentation, PLEASE RESPOND PROMPTLY with your name, affiliation, and a tentative title for your presentation. The deadline for abstract submission for Aquaculture America 2012 is Friday, September 2nd, 2011.
