As part of this year’s BioMarine Business Convention being held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from September 9 to 12, the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has organized a EUREKA Day on September 11, for those seeking opportunities to pursue industrial technology research and development (R&D) collaborations with firms in Canada, Europe, Israel and South Korea in the emerging biomarine sector.
EUREKA is the largest market-driven industrial R&D network of its kind, comprised of over 40 economies in Europe, as well as Israel and South Korea. Its global reach and influence was extended in 2012 when Canada became an associate member.
“Through EUREKA cooperation, companies from member countries can now gain leverage, access to technology and connections to international markets. This is mutually beneficial because of EUREKA’s highly synergetic model of innovation and commercialization for all partners involved,” said John R. McDougall, President of the National Research Council of Canada and Canada’s High-level Representative of EUREKA.
NRC may provide direct support and services to innovative small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with interests in EUREKA through its Industrial Research Assistance Program. It also houses and manages Canada’s EUREKA National Office.
Pedro de Sampaio Nunes, Head of the EUREKA Secretariat, expressed his enthusiasm for this dedicated session, “I am very much looking forward to speaking about the incredible opportunities for international industrial technology partnering that the EUREKA network provides to the diverse interests within the biomarine sector. Success depends increasingly on a collective approach and EUREKA is a proven mechanism to facilitate such global collaboration.”
EUREKA Day at BioMarine takes place the morning of September 11 with two special sessions:
•The first session runs from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and is entitled EUREKA and Canada – An opportunity for International Industrial Technology Projects. This session will be of benefit to those seeking information about a unique network fostering international industrial R&D collaboration. John R. McDougall, President of NRC, will moderate a panel.
•The second session runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is entitled EUREKA and Canada – Tips for Putting Together a Successful Project. This session will provide some practical advice for firms and other organizations seeking to engage in industrial R&D projects internationally.
