The Spanish Association of Canned Seafood and Fish Manufacturers organizes, once again, the Worldwide Tuna Conference on the verge of the World Fishing Exhibition. ANFACO headquarters, located in the campus of Vigo University, will bring together more than 150 experts of the worldwide canning industry, aiming to debate on the future of the more and more global sector.
World Summit on Fisheries Sustainability

Vigo’09 will host the first World Summit on Fisheries Sustainability. It is an initiative of the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, in collaboration with the FAO and the Imperial College of London. The main objective will be to define the basic guidelines that must drive the fisheries industry towards a sustainable activity from three different points of view: biological sustainability of species, financial sustainability of companies and social sustainability of the communities that make a life from fisheries. During one day, the administrations, scientists, environmental organizations and even the fisheries industry will discuss on how they will channel their respective responsibilities in order to achieve this eagerly awaited triple objective.
Fifth Fisheries Ministers Conference

Since 1985, the Spanish Ministry responsible for fisheries organizes the Conference of Fisheries Ministers in parallel to the World Fishing Exhibition. Concepts like fair trade and responsible fisheries have arisen from these meetings and the debate has been opened on notable topics for fisheries management, such as the fight against illegal fishing, the role of joint ventures in the economic development of third countries or the preponderance of the fishing activity in the economies of coastal states. This year, the conference will be celebrated at the Parador de Baiona, which will bring together more than fifty Fisheries Ministers, as well as international organizations like FAO and the European Commission.
APROMAR Sectorial Conference

The Turbot Farmers Association of Galicia (AROGA) is organising the first Workshop on Marine and Continental Aquaculture in collaboration with Apromar (www.apromar.es) and the Galician Aquaculture Cluster (http://www.cetga.org/). Held alongside Aqua Farming International at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre on 18th September, this first Workshop of Marine & Continental Aquaculture will bring together industry stakeholders and will be split into two parallel sessions: one dealing with parasitology, biotechnology, nutrition and genetics, the second looking at continental aquaculture, social and economic aspects, and company management.
