FEAP has launched a new annual event, to take place this year in Brussels November 7, 2012.
While the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy and its related legislative instruments is under debate, the objectives of EUROPE 2020 also focus on sustainable growth and the competitiveness of Europe. The role and contributions of European aquaculture are the subject of increasing attention, following recognition of stagnation in production following several decades of growth and diversification. With 65% of the EU supply of seafood now being imported, the potential for European aquaculture to contribute to a higher level of European food security is recognized.
This new event will concentrate on how the professionals, stakeholders and decision-makers perceive the role of European aquaculture and how its development can be boosted so as to provide economic growth, jobs and added-value through the supply of high quality aquaculture products.
Speakers at the event will be representatives from the European commission (DG MARE) and the European Parliament (Fisheries committee), aquaculture producers and experts as well as other stakeholders of European aquaculture, all presenting their views on the future of the sector.
Major topics include:
•Aquaculture in society - discussing social, environmental and health aspects of the industry
•Resource use in aquaculture – key issues such as feed supplies and ingredients, access to space and skill needs will be covered
•Aquaculture & the market – hot topics of interest to the consumer will be highlighted
Following the presentation and debate, FEAP will present its recommendations on how to boost the development of European aquaculture development
