Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010 - Farming the Waters for People and Food

Recognizing the importance of aquaculture to global food security and rural socio-economic development, and to analyse the sector’s future development, FAO has partnered with NACA and the Government of Thailand to co-organize the Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010 to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 9-12 June 2010.

The Global Conference on Aquaculture 2010 offers aquaculture stakeholders (e.g. planners, investors, donors, technical assistance agencies, producers, civil society organizations, community advocacy groups and consumers) the opportunity for exchange in-depth understanding of the status and trends (regional/global and thematic  reviews) in aquaculture development, an overview of emerging issues, and an assessment of opportunities and challenges for future development. The conference provides a global forum to build consensus to advance the agenda of aquaculture, face the current challenges and discuss measures to attain the envisioned state of sustainable aquaculture  development.

The conference with the theme “Farming the Waters for People and Food” features contributions by world reknowned figures and top experts in the field of aquaculture who will make the following presentations: introductory plenary keynote presentations will provide a scenario of the state and prospects of aquaculture and requirements of  its development; plenary guest lectures  will address salient issues on aquaculture, its relevance in the context of globalization and other developments; regional and global reviews on aquaculture development trends;  parallel sessions on thematic reviews followed by expert panel discussions; and a concluding plenary session. A poster session and side events will form part of the conference programme.

This global conference, co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia and the Pacific (NACA) and hosted by the Royal Government of Thailand’s Department of Fisheries, will take place in Bangkok, Thailand at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel from 9 to 12 June 2010.

We welcome all aquaculture stakeholders to participate in this global conference and help advance aquaculture as a global, sustainable and a competitive sector food producing sector.
