Feed safety and quality are important elements in the integrated chain concept for the production of healthy food from animals.
It is well known that chemical and micro-biological contaminants are important risk factors in feed commodities worldwide creating large costs for the industry.
In the FP6 Research Project BIOTRACER IP the aim was to improve the present methods for tracing contaminants in the food and feed chains. In the feed chain the focus was on mycotoxins and salmonella as relevant problems for stakeholders in the feed chain.
The research was focused on methods enabling early awareness, identification, tracing and prevention of emerging issues.
Efficient monitoring tools, information management and modelling of risks were also part of the research activities.
Feed industry involvement throughout the project was an essential element of the project in order to guarantee the industrial relevance of the work.
The project has come up with several new aspects on sampling and analysis of contaminants in feed and modelling of the feed chain.
The Biotracer project is happy to collaborate with the expertise at IFF in this unique workshop for the European feed industry.
The workshop will be organised by Prof. Jürgen Zentek (Freie Universität Berlin/Germany), Prof. Per Häggblom National Veterinary Institute, Uppsala/Sweden) and IFF.
