International Award to AquaVision Speaker
AquaVision speaker Robert Kirschbaum of the Dutch company DSM is this year’s recipient of the Giulio Natta award for his innovation methods. Next week he will present these methods at AquaVision in Stavanger, Norway.
The Guilio Natta award is a tribute of the Italian Nobel Prize Winner Giulio Natta, the chemist who invented polypropylene and thus provided a key foundation for today’s plastic industry. This year’s award was given to AquaVision speaker Robert Kirschbaum, who is Vice President Open Innovation in DSM, and an internationally leading name in innovative management.
Headquartered in the Netherlands, the multibillion euro company DSM applies Open Innovation as a basis for its R&D work. In Open Innovation several companies work together with ideas and developments. Instead of covering their operations, they co-operate and share information, competence and ideas, before they ‘return to their base’ for the final product development.
“This is no futuristic vision, but a renowned and increasingly used method for innovation, also in large, international corporations. At AquaVision Kirschbaum will explain how DSM works with Open Innovation,” says Eivind Helland in the AquaVision organising committee.
DSM is a global chemical company with more than 20,000 people and a turnover that has passed 8,000 M EUR. Its innovative character is widely recognized. One of its many products is for instance Dyneema®, the strongest fibre in the world.
AquaVision 2010 stresses innovation as a creator of success. The conference presentations include a new scientific report on what made the aquaculture winners win and what hampered the runners up. Why is salmon a giant industry, whereas sea bass and sea bream have grown considerably less? The report is written by professors Frank Asche and Ragnar Tveteraas of The University of Stavanger.
