Experts, scientists, producers, and companies from Latin America and the Caribbean will gather at LACQUA25, where various countries will share experiences about their aquaculture systems and jointly address the key challenges facing the future of regional aquaculture.

For the first time, the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) will host one of its meetings in Chile. This high-level technical-commercial event will focus on strengthening governance and sustainability in aquaculture, particularly in the context of climate change.

This important conference is organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (LACC-WAS), in collaboration with the Institute of Aquaculture and Environment at Universidad Austral de Chile (Puerto Montt Campus) and INTESAL (Technological Institute of Salmon). The event will take place from October 7-9, 2025, at the Enjoy Hotel Convention Center in Puerto Varas, Chile.

Luis Andrés González Agraz, president of the LACC, stated that “as Chapter president, I am pleased to warmly invite you to our upcoming regional conference in Puerto Varas, Chile, this October. It will be a unique opportunity to share knowledge, innovations, and experiences that drive the sustainable development of aquaculture in our region. I encourage you to actively participate, strengthen our network, and help build the future of the sector. We look forward to welcoming you in this extraordinary natural setting, full of aquaculture energy!”

Marcela Bravo, project manager at SalmonChile, added that “for Intesal, it is an honor to be a local co-organizer of LACQUA25, an event being held in Chile for the first time, right in the heart of our national aquaculture sector, Puerto Varas. We are proud to represent our country before the international community, showcasing Chile’s strength in science and innovation, which has positioned us as a leader in aquaculture in the Americas and a global reference. This event is a unique opportunity to share progress, strengthen networks, and drive sustainable aquaculture forward across the entire region.”

Sandra Marín Arribas, academic at ACUIAM and a member of the Scientific and Organizing Committee, said, “We hope to see active participation from academics, researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, and producers who are eager to learn about the latest advancements in aquaculture science, technology, and innovation. As host country, we aim to contribute significantly to key cross-cutting topics in aquaculture, through keynote lectures, workshops, oral presentations, and posters.”

The program includes two keynote lectures by renowned researchers, six technical workshops on key aquaculture topics, 18 thematic sessions of regional interest and a broad trade show.

Poster sessions and recreational activities, include local food tastings, visits to aquaculture facilities, and a guided tour to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park.

Registration and abstract submission are now open, with the call for abstracts closing on July 31, 2025.
