George Chamberlain, president of the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), will give the opening keynote speech at the 8th North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF) conference being held March 5-7, 2013 in Norway.
Chamberlain’s speech on Tuesday morning, March 5, is titled “Major Solutions Needed to Sustainably Expand Global Aquaculture.” It’s part of the Marine Innovation aquaculture seminar, organized by MareLife.
One of three new major seminars at the NASF this year, this aquaculture seminar is designed to provide innovative solutions to overcome the aquaculture sector’s many challenges.
“The GAA’s presence at the event is representative of aquaculture’s growing importance to the global seafood supply,” said NASF Managing Director Jørgen J. Lund. “The OECD/FAO projects a massive increase in world seafood demand over the next 30 years, following expected population growth and increasing demand for food. Here seafood will play an ever-increasing role,” added Lund. “Most of this supply expansion must come from aquaculture, of which 80 percent will be in Asia. GAA will provide an essential bridge between the advanced, high-tech salmon sector in the North Atlantic and the demand regions in the Far East, where we in Europe can provide support through cooperation, knowledge transfer and capital investments. We are proud to have GAA present here in Bergen next month.”
The three-day NASF is the world’s largest annual seafood business conference. This year, the event will feature 10 seminars and some 100 speakers, and is expected to attract around 600 participants from close to 400 companies and more than 30 countries, said Lund.
The NASF is co-organized by MareLife, Pareto Securities and the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization.
