Several speakers and sponsors from this year’s Offshore Mariculture Conference, which took place from March 6-10, recently shared updates on their experiences after the conference.

BioMar, gold sponsor of Offshore Mariculture 2017, felt that “the people attending the event were all very relevant to the industry and seemed very serious in doing business, therefore the communication was very targeted and the networking had positive results.”

Since the conference, as part of the company’s expansion strategy BioMar Group have taken a solid step into the shrimp feed market by acquiring 70% of the Ecuadorian shrimp feed producer Alimentsa, as reported by Aquafeed.

Italian based company Refamed, who focus on design and development for offshore cage culture projects have unveiled a new sea-worthy, robust, unsinkable polyethylene feedboat, ideal for use at offshore fish farms.

This vessel has been designed to optimize the distribution of pelleted feeds with minimal handling and to stand up to the rigorous demands from the off-shore cage fish farming activities. It also provides a versatile vessel for diver support, facility inspection, maintenance, harvest assistance and the transfer of equipment and personnel.

The vessel boasts a high bow with pronounced “V” shaped hull at fore side, flattening out towards stern, for increased performance and stability. A steering cabin located at the stern, equipped with large glass windows, offers excellent visibility for navigation and control of fish feed operations.
