Pre-processing of feedstuffs to improve their feeding value for aquaculture feeds

The effectiveness of simple and potentially cost-effective techniques for processing feedstuffs of plant, microbial and animal origins prior to their incorporation in feeds has been the focus of studies undertaken at the University of Guelph. The perspectives and pitfalls for these approaches will be discussed by Dr. Dominique Bureau at Aquafeed Horizons Asia 2015.

The agriculture, food and bio-fuel sectors produce numerous co-products or by-products and some undervalorized waste streams. There are opportunities to make use of undervalued products or waste streams or to improve the nutritive and economical values of existing feed ingredients.

The effectiveness of simple and potentially cost-effective techniques for processing feedstuffs of plant, microbial and animal origins prior to their incorporation in feeds has been the focus of studies undertaken at the University of Guelph. The perspectives and pitfalls for these approaches will be discussed by Dr. Dominique Bureau at Aquafeed Horizons Asia 2015.

Dr. Bureau is a well-established research scientist with over 25 years’ experience in aquaculture nutrition. He has lead a dynamic research group, the Fish Nutrition Research Laboratory, at the University of Guelph since 2000. He will join a line up of industry and academic experts from around the world as speakers at the 9th Aquafeed Horizons Asia conference, taking place in BAngkok on March 29, 2016.
