The 22nd Practical Short Course: Trends and Markets in Aquaculture Feed Ingredients, Nutrition, Formulation and Optimized Feed Production and Quality Management will take place from April 8-9, 2024, at Novotel Gent Centrum in Ghent, Belgium.
This is a crash course for new plant personnel and an opportunity for those who are experienced to meet experts in the field to discuss their current problems to enhance their plant operations.
The technical program will discuss topics from ingredients to feed processing, disease prevention and management and more.
Hans Boon, aquafeed consultant at Aquaculture Experience and one of the speakers, stated that “the aquafeed industry went through unprecedented turmoil in the past three years. This turmoil was initiated by the COVID-19 pandemic which initially caused a complete logistic nightmare and led to an extreme scarcity of some ingredients in many markets. The second impact came from the Russian invasion of Ukraine which triggered price hikes for initially wheat but soon the protein market followed. The threat of an appearing El Niño and some fishing bans in Latam created the perfect storm. Most of the raw material prices have returned to ‘normal’ levels although spot market fish oil prices still hover around USD5/kg. Amid the perfect storm, fish feed formulators and ingredient innovators are having the time of their life.”
