The West African Region of World Aquaculture Society African Chapter (WASAC/WAR) is working on a regional report A review of aquaculture governance in West Africa. The objective of the report is to analyze the policy gaps which exist in aquaculture governance in West Africa and propose solutions or recommendations to policymakers and stakeholders to help them achieve good governance in the sector. In a nutshell, the objective of the report is to measure the level of interactions between the private and public sectors in solving problems in the industry in West Africa. This is the first time in the history of the continent that a private entity is reviewing aquaculture policies and institutional arrangements in the region.
WASAC/WAR is looking for sponsors to support the report. Sponsors will be included in the report. “We believe that, if we have strong institutions or a situation where decisions are made by the rule of law and not by the opinion of policymakers, aquaculture will become more profitable in the region,” the organization said.
