Innovasea launched the first commercially available seabream algorithm for biomass estimation.

This algorithm, part of Innovasea’s AI-powered biomass solution, BiomassPro, was rigorously tested and proven to deliver over 95% accuracy in real-time with gilthead seabream weight estimations for Aquafrais Cannes. Located off the coast of France, Aquafrais Cannes has been a leader in French aquaculture for over 35 years, advancing sustainable methods for growing high-quality seabream and seabass.

Innovasea’s BiomassPro features a fully automated, lightweight (7.5 kg) camera that is easy to deploy and move between pens. Using an advanced algorithm, it analyzes fish stocks and autonomously reports precise biomass estimates to an intuitive dashboard, eliminating the need for manual sampling.

“We are excited to expand our multi-species offering and bring the first gilthead seabream biomass solution to market,” said Rafael Cordero, Innovasea VP. “Our compact, portable solution is uniquely suited to meet the demands of seabream farmers who are overseeing numerous pens and require accurate, efficient biomass estimation across their operations.”

Aquafrais Cannes operates more than 150 offshore pens. With Innovasea’s BiomassPro solution, camera setup takes just five minutes and requires only a single person to carry it out. Previously, this setup process involved four workers and lasted over half an hour at each location.

Real-time data, tracked in the BiomassPro dashboard, lets Aquafrais Cannes improve growth performance through better monitoring, optimize feed costs with more accurate feed rations, streamline workforce efficiency, and improve fish welfare through non-intrusive sampling.

“Thanks to BiomassPro, we get more precise estimates in less time,” added Jérôme Hémar, general manager at Aquafrais. “Now, we can better predict sales and reassign our lean team from biomass calculations to other vital farm tasks.”

Innovasea’s BiomassPro supports six species — Atlantic salmon, cobia, gilthead seabream, king salmon, red snapper and yellowtail. A European seabass algorithm is scheduled for release later this year.
