The aquaculture sector in Morocco continues to grow at a steady pace. In 2024, no fewer than 322 agreements for the establishment and operation of aquaculture farms were published in the Official Bulletin, according to local news reports. Among these projects, 200 aquaculture farms have already been set up across various regions of the country, with an anticipated annual production of over 124,000 tons in the long term. These initiatives have created 5,000 direct jobs and 10,000 indirect jobs, according to the State Secretariat for Maritime Fisheries.
During the 24th session of the National Agency for the Development of Aquaculture (ANDA) board of directors, two financing programs developed in partnership with international donors were approved. These programs involve a total investment of MAD 300 million (USD 29.8 million) and aim to support aquaculture projects while strengthening the sector’s overall development.
ANDA is also dedicated to advancing solidarity-based aquaculture projects. To date, 112 projects have received a total of MAD 164 million (USD 16 million) in funding, enabling young entrepreneurs to join this thriving sector. This support includes both financial and technical assistance to ensure the viability and success of these initiatives.
Looking ahead to 2025, ANDA has announced an ambitious action plan comprising 22 strategic projects designed to provide fresh momentum for Morocco’s aquaculture sector. New project calls will be launched to attract both national and international investments. Additionally, ANDA is working to establish international financing programs that will provide technical and financial support to project leaders, helping them modernize their infrastructure and equipment.
