Oman launches shrimp farm project

The farm includes a hatchery, post-larval production unit, nursery unit and 126 grow-out ponds with a production capacity of 3,700 tons.

Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) opened its Al Khuwaima Shrimp Farm in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani bu Ali, South Al Sharqiyah, in Oman.

The farm is projected to yield an annual production of 3,700 tons in 2024 with the possibility of the production increasing to 4,000 tons. The project began producing in March 2023, and has already produced a total of 500 tons. Eng. Belarab Omar Al Battashi, Project engineer of Al Khuwaymah shrimp farm, said that the project occupies an area of two million square meters, with an investment of RO 16 million (USD 41.5 million).

The farm includes a hatchery, a post-larval production unit, a nursery unit, 126 grow-out ponds, pre-processing and packing facilities, administrative offices, warehouses, a laboratory, maintenance workshops, and accommodations for employees.
