AAFCO's Feed Manufacturing Committee has issued a new draft of Model Feed Regulations designed to mandate process control for the feed, ingredient and pet food industries.

According to the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), AAFCO took the approach after completing a voluntary best management practices document and checklist. An AAFCO official said the action is intended to continue FDA's process in the Animal Feed Safety System (AFSS), in case the federal process is "derailed."

The new AAFCO draft will be reviewed by the committee and industry advisors immediately following its Annual Meeting July 30-August 1, 2005 in St. Pete Beach, FL. The draft includes comments and recommendations from the full committee and drafting task force.
