The province of Benguela in Angola, is to start exporting fishmeal to China, following a request to a factory in Baía Farta, according to the provincial Director of Fisheries, José Gomes.
Cited by state newspaper Jornal de Angola, Gomes said the plant produced 285,000 metric tons (MT) of fishmeal between January and November 2015, with the majority being exported to Namibia and South Africa, priced at US$1,250/MT.
In the same period, the factory also produced a considerable amount of fish oil, which was exported to the same two countries, some of it for re-export.
The factory in Baia Farta began operating in 2011 and has a fishmeal production capacity of 6 metric tons per hour.
