Cape Verdean company OJFP, which processes the fish waste of fish canner Frescomar, has invested USD 1.2 million in new equipment to keep up with growth at the factory, following the installation of its new production line for canned tuna.

OJFP’s new fish drying and bagging line, purchased from China, has increased the company’s production capacity from 20 tons with nine days of drying, to 50 tons with drying in just 24 hours.

Pre-production trials have been completed and production of meal, feed and fish oil was due to begin this week.

Angola was initially the main destination for OJFP’s products, but recent difficulties caused by the lack of foreign currency in that country forced the company to look for alternative markets, and Ivory Coast emerged as an alternative.
