One of the main objectives of aquaculture is the reduction of antibiotics use. Le Gouessant Aquaculture is testing alternative ingredients based on natural plant extracts, essential oils and vitamins to reduce their use. One example is AquaBoost, a product developed by Le Gouessant Aquaculture that is based on essential oils that prevent vibriosis affecting fish and shrimp.

“We tested AquaBoost in vitro at Oniris, National Veterinary School of Nantes, and in vivo in European seabass in Malta. Due to the good results obtained, we will now move on to large-scale tests in a farm, before its commercialization,” said Amélie Gonçalves de Sa, project manager at Le Gouessant Aquaculture. “A unique miraculous solution does not exist, synergies between several products or actions must be found to tackle down issues occurring on fish farms," stated Gonçalves, who encourages companies to try products like AquaBoost.
