Novatek is developing its aquaculture feed division in Zambia, with the upgrading of a fish feed plant to treble output.
A third extruder has been added, and all three extruders now have double steam conditioners and are collectively capable of producing 900 metric tons (MT) of extruded feed per month. This has grown from a mere 300 MTper month in the first quarter of 2015.
The company recently received a fat coater and enzyme applicator, which will be installed this month. The new equipment will facilitate the production of a tilapia brood stock pellet with the correct lipid percentage.
There are also plans to produce hormone treated fry mash for the sex reversal stage, which will be done under lab conditions on a commercial scale. The development will allow small scale producers to produce their own sex reverse fingerlings.
