October is National Seafood Month. This month provides an opportunity to celebrate the important role of seafood in the “blue economy.”
NOAA is using the opportunity to highlight the success of U.S. seafood as among the world’s most sustainable.
"The United States is home to some of the largest, best-managed wild-capture fisheries in the world. We are also home to the leading science and innovative technologies that have come to characterize modern, environmentally sound aquaculture. The bottom line: both U.S. wild-capture and U.S. farmed sources of seafood are critical for ensuring a steady supply of sustainable seafood in the long term," stated Chris Oliver, head of NOAA Fisheries.
Throughout the month of October, NOAA Fisheries will be highlighting the success stories behind U.S. seafood and the U.S. fishermen and fish farmers who make it possible.
Interested parties can visit the National Seafood Month webpage where new content will be posted throughout the month.
