Salmofood, a Vitapro Chile brand, announced the winners of its Best Site 2024 awards, which recognize the best productive results achieved by salmon farms using its nutritional solutions. The awards highlight best practices in production management, including optimal feeding and health strategies.
In 2024, four efficiency and productivity indicators were evaluated at Atlantic salmon seawater sites: Biological Feed Conversion Ratio (FCRb), Specific Growth Rate (SGR), Yield per Cycle (YPC) and Efficiency (YPC/FCRe).In coho salmon, the FCRb was awarded.
The Melchor 4 site, owned by Australis, stood out as the big winner, taking three of the four categories evaluated in Atlantic salmon. Other companies, such as Ventisqueros, Cermaq, Invermar, Mowi, and Multi X, also received recognition for their results.
In the coho salmon category, the Lin Lin site, owned by Salmones Aysén, excelled in feed efficiency, achieving the best result in the FCRb category.
Ramiro Larios, general manager of Vitapro Chile, expressed the company's pride in awarding its clients and acknowledged the teams' efforts in achieving these results. "We recognize the great effort of each team to obtain these achievements and their ongoing commitment to the salmon farming industry on its path to sustainability," Larios stated.
Francisco Valdés, business manager of Salmofood, highlighted that the Best Site awards, since their creation over a decade ago, have been a key recognition of the outstanding management of farming sites in Chile. The 2024 results, according to Valdés, "reflect the joint effort of the industry to optimize salmon production. The combination of technology, professionalism, efficient management, and specialized nutrition has been key to improving productive performance."
Salmofood's business manager also emphasized the significant evolution of the industry over time, evidenced by improvements in productive indicators, reduced use of antibiotics, and the development of specialized diets.
Valdés stressed that it is possible to continue moving towards better production cycles and that innovation is a central focus for Salmofood. "We will continue to research and develop high-performance nutritional solutions, adapted to different farming conditions. Our commitment is to continue contributing to the sustainable growth of salmon farming, promoting productive efficiency and fish welfare," he concluded.
The Best Site 2024 awards ceremony will be held in March in the Los Lagos region.
