The incorporation of marine-based ingredients such as fishmeal and fish oil into diets of farmed aquatic animals increases feed efficiency and growth through better feed palatability, enhancement of nutrient uptake and absorption while also imparting a ‘natural or wholesome’ characteristic to the final product, such as that provided by wild fish.

Considering that the fisheries that target the production of fishmeal and fish oil are not sustainable in the long term, Savinor UTS, a Soja de Portugal company, produces high-quality, fully traceable ingredients mainly derived from byproducts from the local canning industry and whole fish from local harbors (tuna, sardine, mackerel), which are further included in the Aquasoja recipes. This synergy ensures a regular supply of fishmeal and fish oil and allows Aquasoja to guarantee quality, sustainability and traceability in fish feed production.

Savinor UTS is the Portuguese market leader in the capture, treatment and valorization of 100% wild-caught fish. "The fishmeal used in Aquasoja formulas is therefore of high quality presenting easily digestible proteins and important vitamins and minerals. Moreover, together with fish oil, the fishmeal produced is an excellent source of healthy omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA. The valorization of marine byproducts for incorporation into farmed fish feed is another example of Soja de Portugal economic and environmental sustainable practices and illustrates its commitment to a circular economy," the company said.
