Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health’s (ANH) aqua business launched its first-ever digital sustainability hub – an important milestone in the company’s 16-year journey of measuring, managing and transparently reporting on sustainability progress.
The new website replaces the physical sustainability reports published annually since 2009. It provides user-friendly access to 2024 performance data, core impact areas, and strategic priorities – making this the most accessible and transparent report format to date: Our performance in 2024 | Cargill
Cargill’s global work to improve aquafeed, includes enhancing the sustainability of existing feed ingredients, working to unlock a range of new products and services, while also reducing emissions in the company’s own operations. The team’s sustainability work in aqua feed is focused around four pillars: product, planet, people and partnership.
Highlights of Cargill’s progress in these areas include:
Product
- Supported two new Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) in Oman and Chile.
- Over 90% of marine ingredients in 2024 were from a certified source or a FIP.
Planet
- Improved coldwater feeds raw materials to have an average Scope 3 footprint by 9% over last year, achieving 1.72 tCO2e per tonne, including land use change.
- Reduced Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by more than 55% in Norway.
- Reduced total water consumption globally by more than 10%.
People
- Continued training female shrimp farmers in Ecuador and Mexico on topics including good farming practices, entrepreneurship, and the circular economy to over 100 farmers over the past three years.
Partnership
- Joined the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership to exchange best practices and collaborate across the industry to achieve productivity goals more efficiently.
- Partnered with IDH Aquaculture Working Group on Environmental Footprint to significantly reduce carbon footprints for species such as tilapia, pangasius, and shrimp.
This online hub and progress data show ANH’s continued commitment to shaping the future of aquaculture – through innovation in feed ingredients, partnerships that scale industry impact, and actions that support farmer livelihoods, ecosystems and communities.
