The Mowi Industry Handbook provides financial analysts, investors and other stakeholders with clear insight into the salmon industry. Subjects covered include the positioning of salmon in the global food supply, diminishing growth expectations and the sustainability of feed.
Regarding feed sustainability, the company stated that substitution of marine raw materials has not been found to have any negative effect on growth, susceptibility to disease, or quality of the fish if the fish’s own nutrient requirements are being covered. The report found that the downward trend in the use of marine ingredients continues and with the ability of Atlantic salmon to utilise alternative feed ingredients, lack of feed raw materials should not be a threat to the growth of the industry. However, according to the report, there will be increased competition for the best quality raw materials and feed prices may therefore be affected.
