November 2009 U.S. catfish feed deliveries up 53 percent from last year
Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during November was 22,594 tons, up 53 percent from November 2008, but down 44 percent from the previous month. Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 21,280 tons, up 48 percent from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 1,314 tons, up 265 percent from the corresponding month a year ago.
November feed delivered to Alabama catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 8,762 tons, up 65 percent from last year. Alabama accounted for 41 percent of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to U.S. farmers.
The other major States with catfish feed deliveries for foodsize fish in November and their comparison to the previous year were Arkansas with 1,310 tons, down 24 percent; Louisiana with 1,435 tons, up 300 percent; and Mississippi with 7,523 tons, up 65 percent.
