On February 14, 2013, the European Commission decided to allow non-ruminant processed animal protein (porcine and poultry) to be incorporated into farmed fish feed.
This decision became effective June 1this year. To support the feed industry, TNO Triskelion offers a highly ruminant-specific RT-PCR method which has been validated in European ring-trials. Currently this method is the only approved method for ruminant testing in Europe.
The TNO Triskelion method was assessed in close cooperation with the EURL-AP (European Union Reference Laboratory for Animal Protein in feeding stuffs). The validation study proved that the method meets all criteria with regards specificity, sensitivity robustness. As a follow-up, the method was assessed in an inter-laboratory study in which 12 European institutes participated. Based on this assessment, the EURL-AP concluded that the ruminant specific Real-Time PCR method developed by TNO Triskelion is suitable for the detection of ruminant PAP in feed.
As a processor of animal protein, aquafeed producers or users need to be sure that your products do not contain ruminant protein. This means clear and trusted analytical reports are required to demonstrate unequivocally the quality of products for both business purposes and legal compliance. As developer of the method, TNO Triskelion has the experience and the credibility to match these needs. This service is designed to deliver reliable results on time. An express service up to 48 hours is available on consultation.
