In its quest to reach $4 billion in revenue, global animal health and nutrition company Alltech is realigning its directorship to take strategic advantage of emerging opportunities.  Dr. Mark Lyons has been named vice president of corporate affairs and Geoff Frank has been appointed to manager of North American sales.

“Alltech has experienced a remarkable growth in the past couple of years,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. “The opportunities are ripe and abundant, and consequently I’ve asked several key members of our directorship to assume new areas of focus. We are moving away from ‘business as usual’ to the business of the future Alltech, an Alltech that sees $4 billion as a viable achievement within the next few years.”

Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, French and German, Dr. Mark Lyons will be concentrating on key international accounts and industry groups as well as core company initiatives. Under his leadership as director of North America, Alltech expanded its presence in all agricultural sectors with the opening of new offices.

Dr. Mark Lyons had previously served as director of international projects, overseeing projects and operations at Alltech’s solid state fermentation plant in Serdan, Mexico, and its flagship yeast production facility in São Pedro, Brazil.

Alltech’s new sales manager of North America, Geoff Frank, has more than 40 years of experience in agriculture and livestock businesses. Frank began working with Alltech in 1992 as chairman of Alltech’s distribution in South Africa, his native country. Since that time, he has held a number of directorship roles including that of CEO of Improcrop, an agronomy subsidiary of Alltech.

Alltech also announced the promotion of Matthew Smith to the position of Asia Pacific Director. Smith has been with the company for 15 years, most recently serving as the general manager of the company’s New Zealand branch.

Commenting on the appointment, Alltech Vice President Steve Bourne said, “Alltech is experiencing tremendous growth in the Asia Pacific market, up 21% year to date. Without doubt, this region offers the greatest opportunity to Alltech globally, given the population size, demographics, rising income levels and the propensity and desire for meat consumption.  With the experience and leadership of Matthew, along with a number of other strategic changes within the region, we have full confidence that Asia Pacific will become the first billion dollar region for Alltech.”

Alltech’s other recent strategic changes in the Asia-Pacific region include an increased investment into seven local production facilities with continued implementation of Alltech’s AQS quality control system, which exceeds global standards and regulations. The region is supported by a team of 14 analytical technicians who provide on-site quality control. In order to meet growing consumer demands, Alltech plans to open three additional production facilities throughout Asia and the Pacific over the next three years.

The relocation of the Asia Pacific Bioscience Centre to Tianjin, China will provide increased support to the swiftly growing Chinese market and focus on Alltech’s latest foray into pioneering natural technologies, Programmed Nutrition. The Programmed Nutrition approach views the total animal throughout its life and uses specific feeding and feed management strategies to manage growth and product quality.  It is not simply a change in feed formulation or supplementation strategy; it is a strategic shift in animal nutrition.

With the recent opening of Alltech Algae in Kentucky, the Asia Pacific region is preparing to commercialise the opportunities expected to arise through this $200 million facility, including the development of algae-derived feed products.
Alltech China was established in 1994 yet the company has been in the Asia-Pacific market since 1986 through their first distributor in Japan. The company currently has a presence in more than 17 countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Alltech continues to grow at 20% or more each year, and now employs 2,650 team members in 128 countries.
