CJ CheilJedang completed a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for 41 types of products produced at seven business sites in five countries (USA, Brazil, Indonesia, China and Malaysia) and completed a third-party feasibility assessment by DNV.

DNV conducted a feasibility assessment based on the values of major environmental impact indicators such as climate change and resource depletion during the “cradle-to-gate” process for each product based on the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The products verified this time include amino acids for feed such as lysine, tryptophan, and arginine. For these products, the company has been able to provide reliable data by complying with the LCA guide developed by the European Union, which is strengthening environmental regulations.

“CJ CheilJedang plans to preemptively respond to the needs of global customers who value sustainable management and further solidify its position in the global green bio market through this LCA feasibility assessment,” the company said.

The company is also developing a program to support ESG management of its customers. The goal is to further enhance technological marketing capabilities by utilizing BIOFEED, a program that can manage feed mixing ratio and carbon footprint in an integrated manner.

Seok-Hwan Yoon, head of CJ CheilJedang’s BIO business division, said, “We have continued our efforts to create a sustainable green bio market by securing production technology that can mass-produce amino acids using eco-friendly methods.” He added, “We will continue to build a low-carbon bio market based on the internationally standardized LCA system. We will expand product development and make greater efforts to reduce emissions.”
