Nor-Grape® 80 is a grape extract developed by Nor-Feed, a company based in Beaucouzé, France, that was authorized for animal nutrition by the European Commission in 2017. Since then, its use in aquaculture feeds and premixes has risen steadily and constantly.
According to Alexia Lepont, quality and regulatory affairs manager at Nor-Feed, “this authorization was a major achievement for Nor-Feed as it was the first botanical additive authorized within its category. It’s a good representation of our ability to develop efficient and well-documented products for animal nutrition. As Nor-Grape® has also been recognized as safe for aquaculture species by the EFSA, we were able to address this market.”
Due to its complementary action with other micronutrients involved in the antioxidant system, Nor-Grape® can be easily applied in juvenile, broodstock and special diets. Nor-Feed has also run various trials to measure product efficiency on fish meat quality, which is an interesting feature for many partners. The company works in close collaboration with some of them to further document it. Investments made to reach this authorization allow supporting customers in their research towards better feed performance in general and, more specifically, the use of antioxidants.
The authorization is also useful in developing the business outside Europe. Nor-Feed has also developed partnerships with shrimp and tropical fish feed producers interested in the technical background accumulated by the product through the registration process. Nor-Grape® 80’s ability to be used in organic aquaculture is also a plus, as this market tends to develop quite well, especially within Europe and South America.
