Peruvian fishing company TASA, a fishmeal and fish oil producer, presented its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting achievements made possible by improved ocean conditions. This recovery, driven by favorable oceanographic conditions and science-based regulation, enabled the opening of two anchovy fishing seasons in the Central-North regions of the country.
These achievements add to the various sustainability initiatives the company has been implementing. Notably, TASA has measured and reduced its carbon and water footprints across all operations, achieving more efficient use of natural resources. Through its Climate Action Plan, TASA has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 20% and water consumption by 35% by 2030.
Its vision for sustainable development is based on three pillars: Ocean, Climate Action, and People, which are integrated across all processes. Additionally, with its circular economy approach, the company has managed to repurpose 55% of its waste. Another key milestone is the strengthening of its sustainable fisheries management model, Cuidamar, which since its inception in 2008 has recorded over 420,000 marine species sightings and more than 78,000 releases.
“At TASA, we understand that economic success is only sustainable if it is built on respecting and caring for people, protecting our oceans, and acting responsibly in the face of climate change. This report reflects our team's commitment to continue leading a more responsible fishing industry,” said Gonzalo de Romaña, CEO of TASA.
In 2024, TASA’s fishmeal production reached 265,817 tons, thanks to the recovery of anchovy biomass during the two authorized fishing seasons.
Currently, TASA operates under international certifications such as ISO 14001 and is progressing toward ISO 37001 anti-bribery certification. With these actions, the company reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its leadership in sustainability and efficiency within the global fishing industry.
