The ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIBA) has partnered with Aker BioMarine India to test the krill meal in shrimp and fish feeds in India.

Aker Biomarine, a Norwegian supplier of Antarctic krill meal and value-added products, has already tested the nutritional advantages of krill meal in salmon. With this agreement, Aker Biomarine wants to promote the krill meal as a functional ingredient in shrimp and fish feed in India farming.

Dr. K.K. Vijayan, Director of CIBA, highlighted the significance of this novel initiative as a sustainable resource for a growing Indian aquafarming sector. He said that krill meal can be used in the development of functional feeds, especially for broodstock and larvae.

Atul Barmann, Director of Aker BioMarine India, highlighted the uniqueness of the krill meal and the company’s vision on sustainability and planetary health. He also emphasized the importance of this new partnership between CIBA and Aker BioMarine to provide solutions to the Indian aquaculture sector.
