The new Aquaculture Innovation Center (AIC) is supported by Temasek Polytechnic and Enterprise Singapore, the Singapore government agency championing enterprise development. The AIC is the first center of innovation to bring the vast knowledge and experience from different partners – tertiary institutes and government agencies – together through a consortium model. The partners include Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, James Cook University, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

AIC will drive research and development, and co-innovation partnerships as well as offer training and development opportunities in three key areas:

• Nutrition, feeds, additives and feeding management to improve knowledge base on nutritional requirements of the different fish species and corresponding growth stages.
• Health and disease management to provide guidance on appropriate aquaculture antibiotics and vaccines.
• Genetics, breeding and seed production to increase domestic supply of quality broodstock and larvae for farming.

In addition, the center seeks to raise industry standards through product testing, certifications and quality standards development. Conferences, workshops and joint research and development efforts are in the pipeline as the AIC looks to train aquaculture farmers of the future. The AIC is also currently engaged in a government-to-government project with Amaravati Partnership Office and a fine bubble project with Standards Development (SMF-SDO).
