Norway and China have signed an agreement that will contribute to securing market access in China for Norwegian fishmeal and oil. Haral Gjein, the Fisheries Minister of Norway, said that there is great interest in trading such goods, both in Norwegian and Chinese players. The agreement also included the opening up for imports of salmon from plants subject to Lerøy, Nordlaks and Salmar.

“China is our biggest growth market this year. The fact that the Chinese seafood consumption increases more than the total Norwegian seafood production annually gives a picture of how great the potential of the Chinese market is for Norwegian seafood exports. In order for the seafood industry to be able to exploit this potential, we are dependent on good and predictable market access,” Nesvik said.
