Alltech has increased its stake and acquired Finnforel’s share of Alltech Fennoaqua Oy, increasing its shareholding and becoming the company’s majority stakeholder.
Alltech Fennoaqua is Finland’s only fish feed production facility and a pioneer in nutrition for recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). It also specializes in producing sustainable, high-quality feed solutions tailored for cold-water aquaculture operations.
Alltech delivers tailored nutritional solutions that improve health and performance while reducing impact on the environment. Alltech’s increased investment in Alltech Fennoaqua unlocks new opportunities for innovation and growth in the aquaculture sector, both in Finland and worldwide.
“Aquaculture is one of the world’s fastest-growing sources of protein – and it is a focus area for us,” said Mark Lyons, president and CEO of Alltech. “As the majority owner of Alltech Fennoaqua, we are deepening our commitment to delivering smarter, more sustainable solutions for aquaculture systems, backed by scientific innovation and global aquaculture expertise.”
Alltech and Finnforel first partnered in early 2023 to acquire the Raisioaqua fish feed production facility, safeguarding Finland’s only source of domestic fish feed. Since then, the company, renamed Alltech Fennoaqua, has enhanced production to meet growing demand for RAS and cold-water aquafeeds.
“This is an exciting milestone for Alltech Fennoaqua,” said Tomi Kantola, CEO of Alltech Fennoaqua. “With Alltech’s expanded ownership and continued investment, we are better positioned than ever to serve aquaculture producers with innovative, sustainable feed solutions, all while supporting domestic food security and export growth.”
As part of the Alltech family of companies, Alltech Fennoaqua benefits from the research and global expertise of Alltech Coppens, Alltech’s aquaculture nutrition division headquartered in the Netherlands. This includes access to advanced research and development facilities and support, particularly in key markets such as Sweden, Poland and the Baltic countries.
“This acquisition strengthens Alltech’s presence in aquaculture and reflects our belief in its vital role in feeding the world sustainably,” said Ronald Faber, CEO of Alltech Coppens and global aqua lead at Alltech. “We’re now in an even stronger position to support responsible fish farming and deliver innovative, sustainable nutritional solutions for a growing global population. The future of aquaculture is full of opportunity.”
For more than 40 years, Alltech Fennoaqua (formerly Raisioaqua) has prioritized environmental stewardship, local economic growth and community engagement. “Its focus on premium nutrition, circular economy principles and scientific advancement reflects Alltech’s purpose of Working Together for a Planet of Plenty® — a world where nutritious food is abundant and accessible, communities prosper and our planet’s natural resources are replenished for generations to come,” the company said.
