Winter syndrome is a pathology that affects seabream when the water temperature drops below 15ºC. It is classified as a multifactorial disease that comprises metabolic disturbance, nutritional deficiencies due to residual feed intake, stress, immunosuppression and susceptibility to opportunistic pathogens. Even after the cold months, in the beginning of spring, seabream suffers a thermal shock and cannot feed properly, losing weight and eventually dying, thus causing economic losses for fish farmers.

DORIN, in the market since 2013, is Aquasoja’s functional feed for seabream in the winter period. The goal is to improve the hepatic metabolism of seabream avoiding physiological problems caused by thermal shocks through its low energy (16% fat, 100% fish oil), high levels of fishmeal and with hepato-protectors that help the fat metabolism during and after the winter months.

“DORIN, therefore, avoids seabream’s loss of weight or even mortality in winter and helps fish recover better when temperatures rise again and feed intake increases. In order to prevent high economic losses from this pathology and to work towards a more profitable fish production, we recommend feed DORIN to seabream,” the company said.
