Skretting became a strategic partner for Norwegian land-based salmon farmer, Gigante Salmon, through a three-year agreement. In addition to the feed itself, Skretting will also contribute with its teams in fish health, sustainability, sludge handling and feeding technology.
“For a long time, Skretting has had a very high focus on sustainability and fish health, which is also what we are most concerned about,” said Helge EW Albertsen, CEO of Gigante Salmon. “This is important to us. No two farms on land are exactly the same. Each facility has different needs, and Skretting meets our needs for fish feed of the best quality but also as an important partner in fish health and sustainability.”
Gigante Salmon AS is building a salmon farm at Lille Indre Rosøy in Rødøy municipality, Norway. Construction work started in September 2021, and the first fish will be released in autumn 2023. The production capacity of the facility is up to 20,000 tonnes of salmon (round weight) per year at full production.
“We are very pleased and proud to enter into a long-term cooperation agreement with Gigante Salmon Rødøy,” said Truls Jakob Dahl, commercial director for land-based farming in Skretting. “This is a very exciting and unique project that will provide valuable learning for both parties. We share many values and goals, which will provide good synergies in the build-up phase and further into full operation.”
