Cargill Chile is working with Kaura, an animal fat and protein producer, to provide a carbon neutral raw material to Chilean salmon farming industry.

During a breakfast held on January 15 at the Enjoy hotel in Puerto Varas, Chile the fish feed producer, Cargill Chile, through its general manager, Hugo Contreras, made the announcement of the new alliance with Kaura Coproducts to have a special carbon neutral raw material to produce their EWOS products. Cargill will have the exclusivity for the Chilean market.

The breakfast also featured a presentation by Sergio Ballestero, responsible for Projects, Sustainability and Climate Change at Ecoterrae, an environmental services company that aims at generating value for projects with a low carbon footprint. “Climate change is clear and companies, like everyone else, must act. We have to be able to adapt to these new requirements. The salmon industry should seek a replacement of fishmeal and fish oils with other ingredients that are more sustainable, as Cargill is doing,” said Ballestero.

The meeting ended with a presentation by the company Kaura, in which Rocío Cordero, Kaura’s environmental lead, highlighted the economic model based on the circular economy and sustainability. She also presented the new chicken meal that compensates all of their carbon footprint and it will be available now in Chile thanks to this alliance with Cargill.
