First insect meal facility opens in Ecuador

With an investment of $25 million, the facility is located in Guayaquil and will produce BSF meal for the animal feed industry.

First insect meal facility opens in Ecuador

Ecuadorian company, Bioconversión, opened the first insect production facility in Ecuador. The company will produce black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) for the animal feed industry.

With an investment of $25 million, the facility is located at Espol’s Economic Development Zone (ZEDE) of the Litoral in Guayaquil. It can process 14,500 tons of organic matter per year and produce 1,200 tons of insect meal. 

The company opened a pilot plant in 2018 and is now ready for commercial production.
